End of Cydia Apps (for now)

Well that's the end of the Cydia apps. Many more will come out, with most of them being themes. If something intrigues me, I will install it and post about it. If there's any interesting update, I will write about that. For those who don't know how to jailbreak their phones (as theirs hardly any risk for complete bricking and it's not illegal (though it does break Apple's warranty)), head on over to the iPhone Dev Team Blog as well as Sleepers, though I don't like Sleepers much since BigBoss left. Also, ask me questions and I'll try to help.

BlogPress (and iBlogger)

This is the app I use to write to this blog on my iPhone. The signatures at the bottom show this. It is alright, but since this is the only app I could find that works (iBlogger crashed at startup, but I give apps the benefit of the doubt). It allows for posting to many blogs. On Blogger, it allows picture posting from the camera and the photo library. Occasionally, you will not be able to type in the window and you will have to restart it. $10 may be a little too pricey.

Categories

Categories, from Cydia, allow more apps than the 9 pages that the devices can view. You organize your apps into folders, which appear on the springboard.

BossPrefs

A very useful app. Can be made to respond on double tapping the home button (but not when music is playing). Toggles edge, WiFi, bluetooth, SSH, and your email accounts with the ability to add more. With Poof, you can hide icons. Power provides shortcuts to power options. In the more section, there are more settings like dock icons, fix user directory permissions, showing free disk space, and disabling apple app killswitch.

SMSCounter

A useful Cydia. If you're like me, then you only have 200 text messages that can be sent a month without being fined. You may manually count them, but for those who don't, this is the app. It tells you how many texts overall, sent, and received over any point (I don't know how far back it goes, but it's amazing that it can even retrieve those numbers when it wasn't even installed). It can even show a pie chart with your text messages.

Flashlight in Cydia

Because of Apple, the makers of the App Store flashlights could not make their version very bright. Since this is in Cydia, it goes beyond Apple's rules and is much brighter. It can hurt your eyes if you stare at it directly. It's not very good for the battery, so don't have it on for very long. A screenshot would be pointless since it would be all white.

Now playing: Clara Luzia - Morning Light

SpoofApp

This is very creative and very fun. What you do is you impersonate a person by changing your voice and number and fool around with the person. Great and you can record your call for future laughs.

Now playing: A.C. Newman - Like A Hitman, Like A Dancer
via FoxyTunes

dTunes

dTunes is a great app. You can ("legally") download music and torrents, but Google can also do that, and Google is not illegal.

----------------
Now playing: Delta Spirit - People C'mon
via FoxyTunes

Macman

The best version of Pacman, Cydia or App Store. It is tilt-sensored, which is fun. Your finger does not get in the way and make it hard to see. The only problem with that is that sometimes it is hard to turn. Fun and low in size.

Winterboard

This is what allows all the themes to be used. You can custom the background screen from being plainly black, enable Cydia customizations, remove app labels, make everything black, and get rid of the dock.

Now playing: Little Comets - One Night In October
via FoxyTunes

My Second Page, for Those Wondering

I have not had the time to test out all the emulators I have.

Now playing: Team B - On My Mind
via FoxyTunes

AptBackup

Not to be confused with AppBackup, which backups up your App settings. This does as it says, but for only Cydia apps. However, it does not backup your custom repositories. Nevertheless, good for when you have to update your device and it wipes out your Cydia apps.

Now playing: Dent May - Oh Paris!
via FoxyTunes

Supreme Preferences

Supreme Preferences offers the missing and much desired settings that the normal Settings does not include. It has a remember iTunes password which fixes that really annoying message. It has calendar day settings, iPod settings, auto-correction disable, emoji, the ability to change the status bar, the ability to replace carrier, WiFi, and battery with a percentage, and many other things. Available only in Cydia.

Now playing: Friska Viljor - Oh No
via FoxyTunes

Cycorder

Cycorder fills the video recorder void that Apple left out. It allows for video and sound recorder (used to not have sound which was horrible). The thing that makes it better than other Cydia video recorders is that it has real time encoding as you film, which allows for back-to-back recordings without delay.

Now playing: Andrew Bird - Oh No
via FoxyTunes

Snapture

Snapture is the camera that um, the camera should have been. Instead of a little camera button to take a picture it is now the whole screen. There's also quiet mode for those times when you want to be quiet, a fair zoom feature that zooms in without resizing the photo, a level aid, a timer, 3x multishoot, and a couple of color modes.

Now playing: Coldplay - Viva la Vida
via FoxyTunes

MxTube

This is a great alternative to the YouTube app. With it you can do all the normal features of the other app but you can also download multiple videos in two qualities instead of having to wait for the streaming to finish.

IntelliScreen

This is one of my favorite Cydia apps. You can view stories from a wide variety of already formatted feeds like CNN and Gizmodo, or you can create your own. There's weather, sports, calendar, and mail and SMS previews.

AdBlock, Backward Compatibility, MobileTerminal, 3proxy, OpenSSH, and Volume Boost

These are a collection of some Cydia apps that don't have a GUI or a very good one. AdBlock does as it says, Backward Compatibility does as it says, MobileTerminal does a variety of features but with 3proxy you can use an iPhone's non-WiFi internet on your laptop, OpenSSH allows you to view your device's internal files, and Volume Boost does as it says.

Apple Battery and Slider

Again, these are both from Cydia and they are themes, but these are nice.

JTR Wallace and Five Icon Dock

This is a theme off of Cydia. I know that it's only available to those who have jailbreaked their device and that themes are the most objective accessory, but I think this really livens up the icons. Five Icon Dock does just what it is called.
